When we increase our wisdom,

we blossom a flower for ourselves;

可以平凡，可以弱小，

One can be ordinary, can be weak,

但重要的是對(duì)世界永葆希望

but what matters is to take courage to keep hope for the world

和美好的勇氣。

and believe in good.

如今我們身處于物欲橫流的社會(huì)，

Nowadays, we live in a materialistic society.

在“精致的利己主義”等思想的裹挾下，

Compared with thoughts like "sophisticated egoism",

樸素而又純真的雷鋒精神更顯珍貴。

現(xiàn)在，我們國(guó)家處于困難時(shí)期。

Now, our country is in difficult times.

我們是國(guó)家的主人，

As the masters of our country,

應(yīng)該處處為國(guó)家著想，

we should always think of it

事事要精打細(xì)算，

and pinch pennies in everything.

不能今朝有酒今朝醉，

We can’t just enjoy the present

明日愁來(lái)明日憂(yōu)。

and leave our worries for tomorrow.

我們要奮發(fā)圖強(qiáng)，自力更生，

We must work hard and be self-reliant

克服當(dāng)前存在的暫時(shí)困難，

to overcome the temporary difficulties we are facing.

堅(jiān)決反對(duì)大吃大喝，

Being extravagant in eating and drinking should be firmly opposed

力戒浪費(fèi)。

and waste must be avoided resolutely.

在物質(zhì)蓬勃發(fā)展的現(xiàn)代生活下，

In modern life with abundant wealth,

我們不能忘記，

we should not forget

是那些舊時(shí)的補(bǔ)丁，

that it is the patches of the old time

鋪就了現(xiàn)在的錦繡山河；

that pave the way for the current beautiful landscape of our country;

是一雙雙翻開(kāi)的膠鞋，才走出了如今的康莊大道。

it is in pairs of broken rubber shoes that we now come to the road to prosperity.

每一粒米、每一件衣服背后，是以雷鋒同志為代表的革命先輩們的血淚與奉獻(xiàn)。

Behind every grain of rice and every article of clothing are the blood, tears and dedication of the revolutionary forefathers represented by Comrade Lei Feng.

只有不忘來(lái)時(shí)路，才能走好腳下路，堅(jiān)定未來(lái)路。

Only by not forgetting the way we came can we walk the road under our feet and stick to the road ahead.

鉆研

Studying Intensively

一好好的木板，上面一個(gè)眼也沒(méi)有，

There is a hardwood with no holes in it,

但釘子為什么能釘進(jìn)去呢?

but how can the nails get in?

這就是靠壓力硬擠進(jìn)去的，硬鉆進(jìn)去的。

It is the pressure that squeezes them in and drives them in.

由此看來(lái)，釘子有兩個(gè)長(zhǎng)處：

From this, it seems that the nail has two advantages:

一個(gè)是擠勁，

one is the squeezing strength,

一個(gè)是鉆勁。

and the other is the driving strength.

我們?cè)趯W(xué)習(xí)上，

When it comes to studies,

也要提倡這種“釘子”精神，

we should also advocate this "nail" spirit,

善于擠和善于鉆。

to be good at squeezing and driving.

在車(chē)間工作的時(shí)候，

When working in the workshop,

雷鋒總是努力擠出休息的片刻，

Lei Feng always tried to squeeze a few moments from rest,

在每一個(gè)煤油即將耗盡的夜晚來(lái)讀書(shū)學(xué)習(xí)。

reading and studying every night when the kerosene was about to run out.

通過(guò)閱讀這些書(shū)籍，

Through reading these books,

雷鋒受到了馬克思主義的啟發(fā)，

Lei Feng was inspired by Marxism,

感悟了毛主席對(duì)社會(huì)主義理論的精確解讀，

perceived Chairman Mao's precise interpretation of socialist theory

成為黨和人民的忠誠(chéng)擁護(hù)者。

and became a loyal supporter of the Party and the people.

“雷鋒精神”，是學(xué)出來(lái)的，更是“鉆”出來(lái)的。

我學(xué)習(xí)了《毛澤東選集》一、二、三、四卷以后，

After I studied volumes 1, 2, 3 and 4 ofSelected Works of Mao Zedong,

感受最深的是，懂得了怎樣做人，為誰(shuí)活著。

my deepest impression was that I knew how to be a human being and who to live for.

我覺(jué)得自己活著，就是為了使別人過(guò)得更美好。

I feel that I live to make life better for others.

我要以黃繼光、董存瑞、方志敏等同志為榜樣，

I want to follow the example of comrades such as Huang Jiguang, Dong Cunrui and Fang Zhimin,

做一個(gè)熱愛(ài)祖國(guó)、熱愛(ài)人民，永遠(yuǎn)忠于黨、忠于人民事業(yè)的人。

to be a person who loves the motherland, loves the people, and is always loyal to the Party and the people's cause.

雷鋒的一生，

Throughout his life,

總以服務(wù)人民為最大幸福，以幫助他人為最大快樂(lè)。

Lei Feng always took the greatest pleasure in serving the people and the greatest joy in helping others.

虛心

Modesty

我們要真正學(xué)到一點(diǎn)東西，就要虛心。

We need to be modest if we want to truly learn something.

譬如一個(gè)碗，如果已經(jīng)裝得滿(mǎn)滿(mǎn)的，

For example, if a bowl is already full,

哪怕再有好吃的東西，

even if there is something more delicious,

像海參、魚(yú)翅之類(lèi)，也裝不進(jìn)去，

such as sea cucumber or shark fin, they can not be added in.

如果碗是空的，就能裝很多東西。

But, if the bowl is empty, it can be filled with many things.

裝知識(shí)的碗，就要像神話(huà)中的“寶碗”一樣，

The bowl of knowledge should be like the “treasure bowl” in the myth,

永遠(yuǎn)也裝不滿(mǎn)。

which can never be filled up.

雷鋒認(rèn)為自己是一株幼苗，需要不斷汲取營(yíng)養(yǎng)，向上攀躍。

Lei Feng saw himself as a seedling that needed constant nourishment to climb up the ladder.

當(dāng)他越往上攀躍，便越發(fā)覺(jué)自己的貧瘠，

As he climbed higher, he became more aware of his ignorance,

于是不斷求知探索，

so he kept seeking knowledge and exploring,

勤懇向黃繼光、董存瑞、方志敏等革命先輩學(xué)習(xí)。

learning diligently from revolutionary forefathers such as Huang Jiguang, Dong Cunrui and Fang Zhimin.

“不虛心，不知事。”

"If you are not modest, you won’t learn a thing or two."

保有謙卑之心，才能走得更穩(wěn)、更遠(yuǎn)。

Only by keeping a modest heart can we walk more steadily and farther.

Solidarity

個(gè)人主義好比大海中的孤舟，

Individualism is like a small boat in the sea,

遇到風(fēng)浪，一碰就翻。

and a simple touch of the wind and waves, will capsize it.

集體主義好比北冰洋上的原子破冰船，

Collectivism is like an atomic icebreaker on the Arctic Ocean,

任憑什么堅(jiān)冰都可以摧毀。

which can destroy any kind of ice.

我認(rèn)為坐在小舟里搖搖晃晃不好，還是坐在原子破冰船上乘風(fēng)破浪一往無(wú)前為好。

I think it's better to ride the waves in an atomic icebreaker than to wobble in a boat.

一個(gè)人前進(jìn)總是單槍匹馬，

One man could only advance single-handedly,

眾人向前才能移山填海。

while many hands will have the power to move mountains.

雷鋒同志的目光，始終向著集體。

Comrade Lei Feng's vision is always oriented to the collective.

他是一滴水，

He is like a drop of water,

義無(wú)反顧地投身于社會(huì)主義事業(yè)的汪洋大海。

plunging himself into the vast ocean of socialist cause without any hesitation.

他堅(jiān)信，力量從團(tuán)結(jié)來(lái)，榮譽(yù)從集體來(lái)。

He firmly believes that strength comes from solidarity and honour comes from the collective.

一滴水永遠(yuǎn)不干，

One drop of water in the ocean could never dry up,

雷鋒精神永世長(zhǎng)存。

and the spirit of Lei Feng will live on forever.
